Age of Empires: An attempt at a real time Civilization / Warcraft blend. Unfourtunately , combining Civilization and Warcraft is a very difficult task , and Microsoft did not manage to do this well , they did create an excellent Warcraft II clone. With lots of units , structures , weapons , a larger variety of resources and added techonologies and a lame attempt at simple trade and diplomatic functions. All in all , Age of Empires is an excellent game with many cool features (Hmmm...and it bares Microsoft's name?). In my mind , it is a worthy successor to Warcraft II. Rating:
Blood 3D: Another 3D game that uses the build engine...nothing special right? WRONG! Blood is one of the few 3D games that actually tries to improve apon the existing. Blood does not only improve apon the features of the Build engine , but adds lots of creativity as well. For example , what game do you know has a spray can as a weapon? Or a voodoo doll? Some cool features found only in blood is weapon alternate fire , meaning each weapon has a 'special' attack. For Example , the spray can , can either be used as a flame thrower , or it can be ignited and will explode and light anyone in its way on fire! Plus , Blood added many cool graphic effects , such as people running around on fire , 'kickable' heads and more... If you are a die-hard duke3d fan , i suggest taking a look at blood. Rating:
Civilization 2: The sequel to the ever popular Sid Meiers Civilization. When i first saw this game , I thaught it would be another Civ w/videos and better graphics. I was wrong! Civ2 improved apon the original much more than I expected. Adding tons more technologies as well as many more units , and more wonders of the world , Civ2 is a totally different game. If you liked Civ1 , you'll LOVE Civ2. Not only does Civ2 give you so many more choices than the original Civilization , Civ II allows you to create your own units and technologies!! Edit the Txt file that contains the rules of the game and add up to 3 custom units or Techs! Plus , for all you people who cant beat a game w/out cheating , you have a cheat menu right in the game. (No more annoying cracks and hacks...) All-in-all , CIV2 is the #1 strategy game I have played. Now only if they would let you start new game from inside the program. (If you played Civ1 or Civ2 , you know what i mean) Rating:
Duke Nukem 3D: Im my mind , the greatest 3D game of all time. Duke3d combines awesome graphics , great 3D engine (Yes , its REAL 3D , just because it uses sprites doesnt mean its 'fake') plus totally awesome game play! ***the single most important aspect of a game is game play*** With 10 cool weapons and tons of enemys to fight , Duke3D gives you the ultimate in non-stop shoot 'em up action! Quake: What do you get
when you cross a dozen of technical guru's with a few colorblind artists
and one or two 15th centruy architects? Time's up! The answer is 'Quake'.
Quake , most likely the most popular game of all time with the exception
of Doom and Civilization , is by many considered the best game ever. I
beg to differ. In this review I hope to show you most of the many reasons
why Quake does not deserve even one tenth the credit it has gathered in
the past year or so. Navigating the cold static colorless (well..actully
there are some colors , grey&brown) mazes Quake posses make even the
most patient of men fall asleep. Quake lacks the action the extreme gamer
demands from a cutting edge 3D game. Not only does Quake lack the action
3D gamers demand , it lacks creativity and originality. With only eight
weapons , most of which are the same as another. (Shotgun, double barrel
shotgun , Nailgun , Super Nailgun , Rocket launcher , Grenade Launcher
.. you get the idea.) Also , the medival castle like fixures plagued with
Ogres , Zombies , and other fantasy like monsters weilding Chainsaws
, rocket launchers , and such is not creativity. It is complete stupidity.
All in all , Quake has failed to deliver and quality I high-end 3D game
should deliver. It has failed in the creativity region , Quake has failed
in the originalty and weapon design , it has failed in monster design and
Quake fails to give the player non-stop action , which is what 3D shoot
'em up games are all about. Quake , correct me if I am wrong , is supposed
to be a 3D shoot 'em up , not a 3D find the way out of the colorless maze
game. Quake has one advantage and that is it's internet capabilities ,
which add to the replayability of the game. (even though i think quake
over the net is just as pathetic as single player )

Quake 2: The most anticipated game of the year , Quake2 has finally arrived! At first , I was skeptical about this game , considering how bad Quake1 turned out to be. However , once I played the demo and later the full version I saw that Quake2 was much improved apon. First off , the graphics are good and the level design is greatly improved. Also , Quake2 adds many new weapons and items , as well as awesome multiplayer action! Quake 2 is a worthy successor to Quake 1 , improving apon everything which the original quake lacked. The explosions and the blood could still look better though , even though GLQuake2 is attempting to make these aspects look more realistic. Rating:
Shadow Warrior: From the creators of Duke3d , comes Shadow Warrior. With the same engine as Duke Nukem 3D , and the same creators , you would expect another great game. However , Shadow Warrior greatly dissapointed me. The problem was It was good. The graphics were good , not excellent , but good. The weapons were cool , and so was the sound effects (talking especially) as well as the enemies. The problem was I couldn't play the game! It wasn't fun. I have no clue why , but the fact is , it wasn't fun for me. This is only my opinion and I have nothing to back it up with , so I am forced to give this game a good rating nevertheless. Rating:
